The construction industry is known for specific tools of the trade. A company that deals with paving, among other tasks, will no doubt have on site slope meters. It is also called an inclinometer and the name indicates its use and purpose. It is a type of measurement device to gauge the degree of-yes-a slope.

This device or meter is only as big as the latest model of a tablet or the latest android phone. Inside, you can see a curved tube filled with liquid. Inside it is a small steel ball that slides easily inside the tube. When the cell phone is placed parallel to this measuring device that you see, the ball will slide in position and indicate the slope's angle.

How do you actually employ this valuable tool? You attach it to a vehicle or machine and it will measure as it moves. Ingenious! They are typically found on the dashboard, visible to the driver who jots down notes. It works well day or night and can withstand the climactic elements of rain, snow, and dust.

While there are many types from which to choose, constructors and engineers need the types that help them with crown construction in addition to the requisite slope measurements. Bulldozers can be seen to carry them as well as other construction machines. They are a ubiquitous sight.

The other kind is more for professional work. It is of great use to asphalt pavers, tunneling machines and motor graders. This device gives more detail for more accuracy. Aside from being indispensable during crown work, this device also indicated the percent of grade. Because of this, the work of pavers and workers are faster and more accurate. Some inclinometers have a larger face. It is more useful if needed to be placed far from the observer. It basically functions the same as number 2.

For readability, a construction worker may prefer a larger face on the device. If there is any distance at all between it and the person reading the data, this is critical. Engineers who make a lot of computations like the accuracy that results. The inclinator even tilts to the danger zone as an alert. We can appreciate the importance of knowing the exact amount of slope in terms of safety on highways and gas efficiency. It all has its source.

Believe it or not there is another application that is far afield. Snow skiers are constantly concerned about slope, especially in competitive racing. They also need a tool that can help anticipate the likelihood of an avalanche and they can't trust the naked eye. Steepness can be an illusion and you need proper measurements to know where to go.

You may let a good skiing day pass when you misjudge a particular slope. As a rule, a slope is safe to ski on if it rests between 28 to 45 degrees. Only an inclinometer can measure that from afar. This device is relatively cheap for its usefulness so anyone who lives near an avalanche prone area will be safe with the information they will get from it.
