A simple way to alter the appearance of your vehicle is by fitting a new set of rims. When a car is brand new it will usually be fitted with a set of alloys or steel rims and a lot of drivers will want to change the appearance of the vehicle. If you are trying to locate wire wheels for cars there are a lot of places to buy from and some research is needed before you purchase.

Many car parts retailers will stock wire rims that are suitable for a large number of modern cars and some classic models. There are many color and size options to choose from and you will find something that suits most budgets. You can also find rims offered for sale on the net and these suppliers will usually have huge stocks and there is some useful information on the web sites.

Another option is to purchase some second hand wheels to put on your vehicle. This is a cost effective way of modifying your vehicle and you may find sets from as little as a couple of hundred bucks. Some of these rims may need some reconditioning work and there are specialist companies that provide this service.

There is also the option to get a set of wire rims made by hand and customized to your own tastes. These sets will start from around two thousand dollars and you can select the number of spokes, color and materials. The center nut or fixing hub cap can also be customized with your choice of logo or text.

When you choose to purchase and fit a set of new wire rims it is recommended that you do some in depth research before purchasing. You will need to check that there is enough clearance for the larger rims and some modifications may be needed to the car. Other components such as suspension and brakes may also need some adjustment or modification depending on the model of vehicle.

When you purchase aftermarket rims you will need to make sure you have the tools needed to change the wheel. Most wire rims will be secured with bar spinners or center nuts and the standard tire lever supplied with your vehicle will no longer be useful. Most suppliers will ensure that the new rims are supplied with the required tools.

After care is also a major thing when deciding to upgrade to wire rims. Cleaning can be a laborious task and will take a lot longer than cleaning a standard steel or alloy wheel. Old toothbrushes and rags can be used for the inaccessible areas where pressure washers will not reach. You also need to remove the rims at some point to inspect them for damage and clean behind to avoid corrosion.

It is advisable to ask the advice of a qualified auto engineer to make sure that any alterations to your vehicle are done correctly before fitting aftermarket rims. Your local auto store will also be happy to advise you and check what needs to be done. It is a good idea to store your old wheels and they can be re fitted if you change the car in the future.
