Who in the word does not want a Porsche, whether you are male or female. The iconic brand is something that has been so well marketed and defined down the generations has made it an item to have if you can afford it. Right now you feel that your lifestyle could afford the Porsche 911 SC in your garage. Prior to getting one do read on for more information on this car.

The 911 SC model is the one made to replace the 911 Targa that was very much popular in the late 60s up to the late 70s of the twentieth century. SC is an acronym meaning Super Carrera to distinguish it from the revered Targa model. The SC was produced in production line from the years of 1978 to 1983. Despite its short production run, the model is still considered a very much desirable item.

In terms of body structure, there are three body styles used by the SC which are the 2 door coupe, 2 door cabriolet and 2 door Targa. There are only very subtle differences in design and such, but depending on where you live, one particular design may be more or less expensive or cheaper than the others. The later versions in 1983 was installed with a first full open top with a fabric hood option.

The engine for this particular model is reminiscent of all models prior to it, that is it is located in the boot or back of the car. The engine is 3.0 liters attached to a five speed transmission which can give out over 200 horsepower. This boost in HP is also accentuated by the material makeup of the engine itself.

The 911 SC engine is crafted out of aluminum, thus making it lighter than other conventional engines of the same displacement. Since it is aluminum it will be more resistant to heat, so it has been designed as an air cooled one. Without the presence of a radiator to add weight, the car is much faster due to its lighter weight also. The car being a rear wheel drive, also has options where 4WD or all wheel drive can be installed.

As has been mentioned the engine has an air cooled design and no radiator, and this fact alone will tell you if this car is for you or not. If you live in hot tropical or desert climates, then this car may not be for you. Air cooled engines fare much better and last longer in temperate and cooler climates and may not last long in extended hot and blazing weather.

As it is a specialized engine, think also not of initial cost but maintenance and upkeep cost. Regular maintenance items like changing oil can be ten times more expensive when compared to regular cars, due to sometimes finding exact and not generic parts and also skilled technicians who are familiar with the model. Most of the time technicians are specifically trained for these types of cars and do not learn it on their own.

In sum never buy a car based on initial or surface price alone. Also look at corresponding costs that you will gain in the long run, such as maintenance and discussed in this article. Always look at all the cost factors before making a final buying decision on big ticket items.
