Bronco II was eventually replaced by another Ford model, the Ford Explorer. Although the latter has started fabrication in 1990, the first actual models were released in the auto market in 1991. The early versions of Ford Explorer, from 1991 up until 2010, were small and so categorized under mid-sized Sports Utility Vehicles. The 2011 model though were reclassified because of their larger construct to full sized Sports Utility Vehicles and obtained the award Truck of the Year in North America.

SUV's are well known today which can be largely attributed to the uprising of Ford Explorer. The very first models on American and Canadian roads and highways were those fabricated during 1991 up until 1994 in manufacturing centers situated in Valencia, Venezuela, Kentucky, Saint Louis, Missouri and Louisville. These were obtainable in two options then namely three door and five door styles. Transmission on the other hand was also tendered in two types which were manual five-speed and automatic four-speed transmissions. In terms of the engine, the entire array was powered by the sole engine feature of this model which was V6 4.0 Liter Cologne engine. The next generation of Ford Explorer was manufactured starting 1995 towards 2001 which was available in two styles similar to the 1st generation. This generation of though was presented in different transmission types such as 4R55E automatic four-speed, 5R55E automatic five-speed, 4R70W automatic four-speed, and M5OD-R1 manual five-speed. The engine type selections on the other hand include Cologne V6 4.0 liter and Windsor V85.0 liter. In addition this model generation was the forerunner of the neon stop lamp which is located high mounted centrally at the tail gate. While its true there are a lot of crossovers and similarities between the high end SUV line & that of the F150 XTR & fX4 trucks it seems customers have different needs , preferences and great loyalty to their automobile choice and personal choices.

Another generation of Ford Explorer was offered in the period of 2002 up to 2005. These are now the third generation which are all five , not four door models. The engine selections for this model include the 4.0 L or 4.6 L Cologne V6 and the Modular V8 16 valve engine. There are also gearbox selections which include M5OD-R1HD manual five-speed, 5R55W automatic five-speed, and 5R55S automatic five-speed transmissions. The fourth generation offered by the Ford Motor Company and its distribution network, was offered in the auto market from 2006 up until 2010. This generation of Ford model is all five door styled and powered by engine that can either be 4.0 L or 4.6 L Cologne V6 or 24-valve Modular V8. Transmission types obtainable on this model are 5R55S automatic five-speed and the 6R six-speed transmission. What takes this apart from its predecessor is its bigger size, a monitoring system for tire pressure, power-driven collapsible third row seats and a sturdier framework.

The existing generation of Ford Explorer was produced in Chicago, Illinois. 2011 & 2012 Ford models exhibit the well known & now classic five-door style. The engine choices available were 2.0 EcoBoost and the 3.5 Duratec V6 and all have automatic six speed gearbox. The framework of this model is superb with its appropriate aerodynamics and molds including head and tail lights that were styled like a step. This generation model also involved advance features such as engine start with push button or remote option, lift gates that are mechanically controlled, temperature regulated seats in the front row, assistance for parking software, built-in-the-dash navigation system, solar-tinted windshields with rain sensitive wipers and adaptive control cruise. This model can be accessible as 2 wheel drive (front wheels) and the sharp, all wheel drive system.

One of the prevailing autos in the auto market is Ford Explorer which is true since its released date. Mainly the status is due to the reasonable price and the dependability it is manifesting. Among the distinguished features of Explorer are security, strength, and handiness.
