If you are looking for a job opportunity to work at the sea as a tugboat pilot, then towboat pilots guide is a necessary requirement. It will help you maneuver in the sea with ease. These job opportunities are not limited to the east and west coast, but are open also to large waterways. The waterways can be such as Tennessee, Chattahoochee Rivers, Great lakes and Mississippi. In Europe, they are sometimes known as pushers. The powerful ones are known to have the ability to tug a whole fleet of pushers while the less powerful one are confined to tug 15 pushers.

Steam powered ships were the main contributors to the origin of tugboats. When steamboats were reducing in popularity, the tugboats were used to tug wooden pushers. Steam powered locomotive further led tremendous decline of steamboats. The declining vessels were refitted which led to the beginning of towboats.

These water vessels are commonly used at the coastal waterways. Normally, the cargo ships are not able to tow their loads to the docks because of the shallow depths of water. Towboats are thus used to push the barges. To pull large cargo-filled barges, then a vessel with massive horsepower is required.

These water vessels are designed to travel on the waters in the deep ends. They are therefore furnished with sleeping quarters and dining halls. They are also commonly used during sea searches and rescue missions. Ship wrecks which happen to occur in the deep sea are towed to the docks. The active captains are usually instrumental in curbing drug trafficking security issues.

Many of the coastal towns are famous for spectacular scenes as well as their rich history. It makes it very interesting to have an opportunity to work as a captain for the tugboats. Savannah and Charleston are just but a few examples to mention, which have an ideal environment to raise a family and to live in.

Getting to work in such a field, one has to through relevant authorizing bodies which are responsible in providing license. The available licenses are for Mates, Masters and Apprentice Mate for hauling vessels. With any of the above licenses, one is able to pilot vessel of 26 feet long or even more. Vast experience is, however, acquired from apprenticeship.

As a new captain, one is first required to work as an intern. During this time, they are under the supervision of senior captains. They are shown how to fix boats by the senior captains. Knowing all the part of the boat is also a fundamental requirement for beginners. Fitting and repairing those parts are part of the important lessons to learn. These arms them with the basic skills needed on-board suppose fault occurs.

A towboat pilots guide equips one with the maneuvering techniques in the sea. The license, on the other hand, authorizes him to pilot a vessel. The two qualifications are enough to allow one to sail in the sea without unnecessary inspection. The captain is responsible to build his own reputation by ensuring that he sails safely always. With a good reputation, he is capable of earning more than his counterparts who encounter accidents.
