There are different steps that have to be done before a car should be stored. This should be carefully followed so that you will not end up having a broken brake and a dead battery. Here are the steps to prepare for vehicle storage.

Servicing your car is necessary because this will keep you assured that the engine and the fluids on it are at their best status for storing. This will also keep the car from failing to start later on when it will be used again. Keep the fluids free from all sediments.

Have it be washed and waxed on its exterior because if the paint will not be cleaned and protected, the dirt or any other contaminants that are left sill cause corrosion of the paint and turning it into rust. Buff it or have it detailed if it is possible and the wiper blades maybe removed or lifted so that they would not flatten.

Vacuuming of the interior should be done as well as putting much detail on seats and floor mats which are more prone to being damaged. Throwing away of the trash is needed and avoid applying chemicals on materials like vinyl, fabric or leather. Washing of the windows should include their inside parts so that nothing will be missed.

If you have forgotten changing the oil, this will result to the corroding and eating of the inside wall f the engine because old oil becomes acidic upon being decomposed compare to fresh oil which will still take a long period for breaking down. Doing this will keep the engine seal in good status. Lubricating the hinges and changing the filter should also be done.

Also have the battery be fully charged since electronics rapidly cause draining of the power. For those older cars, it would be better to just disconnect the battery otherwise it will be completely depleted which will result to the inner cells going bad. For newer ones, it is ideal to place them ion a trickle charger because of its advanced computer system.

Top off the fuel tank with gasoline so that if it is full, there would not be any room for the condensation of moist air inside. Add some fuel stabilizers to the gas to help it break down slowly and will not easily evaporate and these can be readily obtained on most hardware shops. Use synthetic oils because they also do not break down easily.

Checking if the brake is not engaged will prevent the breaks pads extending to the drum from rusting due to a long period of not being used and the parking break had been tuned on. If you will not observe this, the result would be that the wheel will be seized. Use wheel cocks instead to keep it in place and the wheels from running.

After you have done all the preparations for vehicle storage, have a note of the things you have done. This can then be placed on the gloved box. In case you have to do the whole thing again, you will have a guide to do it the next time.
