Most professional drivers are unique breed. They spend long hours on the road. They have to know what is required of them on the road and this is inclusive of the commercial rules. If you work with straight hauls, then the rules are plain and simple. If you are dealing with a refrigerator or some sensitive cargo like explosives and such, then the rules can somewhat be different. With this in mind, truck drivers should be able to adapt to the various demands that come with their work.

As mentioned above, these drivers spend long hours on the road. That means sitting in the same position for long hours. This brings about several challenges to your back and spine. It's not uncommon for truck drivers to develop back pain. So the question arises, how do you prevent back pain is a truck driver?

This does not only apply to truck drivers as there are other men who also are involved in lifting heavy cargo in many cases. This can lead to severe back problems. With this being said, these people need to develop certain traits.

One of the most effective ways to alleviate a lot of this pain is to do stretching exercises to relieve those tight muscles. As you are driving, your muscles tend to be fixed at certain positions making them develop tension making them seize up. This is the source of most if not all the problems. Stretching is a sure remedy for this problem as the practice prevents the muscles from seizing up. The exercise should be performed at every stop and also when the driver is breaking for a meal.

Another important consideration is muscle imbalance. This situation comes in when one muscle group becomes much stronger than the other making the other opposite muscle group comparatively weaker. This can be solved by making both muscle groups strong in equal measure.

Another important consideration is hydration. Spinal discs between each of the vertebrae are composed mostly of water, which is about 70%. While you are driving along or walking, the water is squeezed out of these vertebral discs. With this process, you can lose as much as three quarters of an inch of your height. Hydrating your body by drinking lots of water during the day keeps this problem at bay. Professional drivers advocate for a glass of water each hour you are on the road as a necessity.

Use a back support cushion. This helps keep the spine aligned, and avoids a lot of pain associated with out a bit of the position spine. There are various choices of support cushions you can chose from with some customized for professional drivers. Many of these provide cushioning as well as back support.

The just a few of the things which you can do to help eliminate back pain while you're on the road.
