Two semi-trucks were found carrying a load of five hundred and thirteen illegal immigrants through Mexico to the United States. The human cargo was found to be huddled together in terrible conditions by x-ray scanners in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico.

Human smugglers near Guatemalan border when they were stumbled across

In Chiapas, which is near the Guatemalan edge, Mexican cops stumbled across a human smuggling operation. MSNBC reports that there were two semi-trucks found, with X-ray equipment, with hundreds of people crammed in them while driving through checkpoints near Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas. The 513 individuals stumbled across in the two trucks were dehydrated and hungry. They had cargo ropes hanging for the individuals to hang onto to keep themselves upright during the drive.

Immigrants from more than 5 different countries

There was surely a variety of people in the truck. There were many people from different countries involved. Much of the people were from Guatemala; however, some were not. There were 6 from Nepal, one from japan, 1 from china, 12 from India, 47 from El Salvador and 32 that had come from Ecuador. The majority of the people were men. There were 4 kids and 32 women though. According to CNN, four smugglers were arrested as they tried to get away. The Mexican authorities are responsible for what will take place with the human cargo though. Air holes were only accessible on the top of the trailers, according to the Chiapas attorney. Smugglers wanted $7,000 per person smuggled. In Puebla, the trucks were to be re-routed. This would have gotten the individuals in the U.S., in theory. In Jan, a truck containing 219 migrants was found in the same region.

Using Mexico to get to the United States

In order to the get the U.S., several illegal immigrants will go to Mexico. According to Mexican authorities, a find like this hasn't happened in a long time. BBC states that it was a quite big find. Most illegal immigrants pay a fee to get across the U.S. border with help from human smugglers, coyotes or coyotaje. If there is an injury or abuse, migrants can't do anything about it. According to the Christian Science Monitor, there were 72 migrants killed by the Zetas narcotic cartel in August last year while between April and September last year, 10,000 were kidnapped.
