Though many people have been feeling the pinch of gas prices, supercar makers have hardly noticed. High performance green cars are becoming more accessible, but traditional high-end sports vehicles are still being made with complete disregard to the price at the pump. A person can afford a few extra dollars at the pump if they can afford an Aston Martin.

Speed at McLaren

McLaren, the race automobile business and boutique sports vehicle maker, is starting to work on a new car that will debut in 2014, according to AutoWeek. McLaren plans on releasing the MP4-12C this year. It is known for producing the F1 which is the fastest car in the world. The next project for McLaren will be an as yet unnamed automobile that will feature a 5-liter motor that will produce nearly 800 horsepower. The automobile is expected to cost $500,000 for anyone that is interested. It should go 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron can with 2.8 seconds need to go from 0 to 60.

General Motors jobs increase with Corvette

CNN reports that about 250 new jobs will be added to GM in order to invest $131 million into a new Corvette. This is so it can develop a Chevrolet's sports automobile that is even better. The Corvette has been produced since 1981 in the Bowling Green, Ky., General Motors plant and will continue to do so for the next few years with the new vehicle, which means many jobs will be opening up. Information on the car isn't accessible yet. There still is not a release date either. The name ZL1 Camaro is a new Camaro Chevrolet is coming out with. Popular Mechanics reports it won't be available until 2012 though. The ZL1 will have the same engine that the Cadillac CTS-V has. It produces more than 550 horsepower with its 6.2L V-8 engine.

Lean, mean and green

Performance vehicle makers are concerned about the environment a little bit, although the cars that come from these automakers don't usually concern themselves with the environment. McLaren is looking for hybrid vehicle engineers to produce a "green" McLaren. USA Today states that Porsche is selling its 918 Spyder right now. This is a plug-in hybrid that can go three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid coming out on just electric power, can go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 199 miles per hour. The vehicle also has great mileage. Its mileage is 78 miles per gallon typically. By 2015, Ferrari is hoping to have hybrid versions of all its vehicles while already having released a hybrid version of the 599 in 2010, the Daily Mail states. The hybrid 599, the 599 HY-KERS, will do 200 miles an hour and get up to 25 miles per hour, though it still has a V-12car can get 200 miles per hour and up to 25 miles per hour. Popular Science reports that in 2009, Lamborghini declared it wanted to have a hybrid by 2015. It seems even the worst vehicles are going green. Everyone wants to save the environment.
