So you want to buy a device to measure angles, such as in geometrical figures. You are a scientist or you work in construction and want to know about the best inclinometers for sale. Maybe you are building a wall, paving a highway, or erecting a satellite dish. Perhaps you are constructing a race track. No matter. You understand how an angle is formed between two lines, rays or planes and how space is measured in degrees, as occurs with two intersecting geometric figures. You are ready to survey the field and make an informed decision.

The device is part of the metric system and as such it operates on a universal principle that can be understood anywhere in the world. To have a variety of data would cause enormous confusion. Thus the instrument has been limited to a basic type that measures angles from 0 to 360 degrees. You need to do this to measure lengths and heights.

Tilt indicators are one type that is common on the market. You must know what you are looking for and how you will use it when making a purchase. The features vary somewhat so do some comparative shopping to avoid a mistake.

Along with accuracy, there is the important matter of resolution, the nature of the parts, the measuring range, the sealing, and finally the casing. You also are dealing with sensor technology and interference. Resolution and accuracy seem to get the most attention and they are in fact similar. Resolution varies and can go as high as 0.001 degrees. Go for it if your job entails this kind of precision.

Of great value is absolute accuracy which comes from hysteresis, sensor linearity, temperature drifts, zero offset, and sensitivity. This comes into play in measuring slopes. It is all about artificial horizons. In other words, the angular tilt is determined by the horizon.

Technology has improved with these tools in terms of measurement and accuracy so you can be assured of quality with almost all models. It is all about the reliability of the sensor. The instrument you use will have the latest technology. To check it, you can look at tilt angle and number of axes. But it gets more complicated than this. You also have to consider the pendulum, the accelerator, the gas bubble in the liquid in the device, and the liquid capacity. Without these, the implement will not work properly.

In another vein, you will be considering the structure of the casing, a special purpose pipe that aids in installation. It helps with conformation to the surrounding ground and also controls the probe's orientation. It has internal grooves to do the job. In fact, it also maintains all access for the probe so that you can get good subsurface measurements.

Before making a final decision, and therefore a purchase, note the casing diameter and the shape of the groove. Also view the coupling style as it may make a difference. You will have your pick of the following casing types: QD, EPIC, standard, CPI, and shear wire. It takes a bit of knowledge to be sure. Know that the most common is the QC which is found in the bulk of instruments on the market. It guarantees precision and as such is a favored choice.
