Your car at some point will suffer breakdown and will require some mechanical repairs. In severe cases a brand new power unit might be needed to get the car up and running. This can be costly and there are some advantages when using remanufactured engines to get your vehicle back on the road.

A new stock engine from a major car manufacturer will cost thousands of dollars. There are a lot of companies out there who can now take out an old unit, strip it and remanufacture it. By fitting one of these engines into your car you can save a substantial of money and it is also kinder to the environment due to recycling.

There are a couple ways of getting a remanufactured engine for your vehicle and both have benefits. A ready to run unit can be purchased from a reconditioning company that specialize in refurbishing car engines or you can send your unit to them and have it attended to. These two options are considerably cheaper than buying a brand new unit from a major car manufacturer.

Auto spares shops can be found in many neighborhoods and they will be happy to source a unit for you. Engines for the majority of major car models and some older classics will be available to install. If they do not have a compatible unit in their stock room they can probably place an order and will get in touch when one is in stock.

Another good way to find your replacement motor is to look at one of the internet based engineering firms that are trading. Their web pages will have a list of their stock for you to look at and if you place an order they will dispatch it overnight. It is worth calling or emailing the company before finalizing your order to make certain that what you are getting is correct for your car model.

If one of the firms does not have the unit you are looking for and cannot order one, they may suggest that you send in your unit and they will recondition it. They will do all of the necessary mechanical work to make it run again and will return it to you for fitting. Some of the companies will have a collection service and will pick up your vehicle and deliver it back to you with the new engine fitted.

If you have to employ a courier firm to send your old unit for a rebuild there are some things for you to consider. Car engines are heavy, bulky items and will be quite expensive to ship due to the shipping firms charging by the weight of the package. Always make sure that everything is securely packed and find adequate insurance cover in case it gets lost or damaged in transit.

Most of the companies who remanufacture motors will offer a guarantee on the product. Some may offer a one year warranty and others a 12,000 mile guarantee against failures. When you accept delivery your new unit the paperwork that comes with it should be retained in case you should need to contact them in future under the terms of their guarantee.
