If your car suffers a break down a simple fix can often get it running. With a more serious failure, the whole motor could need replacing and this is often fairly expensive. A less costly alternative is to look for rebuilt engines rather than purchasing a brand new manufacturer made unit.

If the entire unit is not too badly damaged, replacing just the engine block, crank casings or the head can solve the problem. A factory made unit can run into many thousands of dollars, so replacing the broken components could save you a lot of money. Replacement spares will range in price and will depend on which components are required to fix your particular faults.

Local mechanics will be in a position to offer you a service where they will strip and rebuild your motor. Another route is to check the web sites and a large number of these have rebuilt motors in stock ready to fit. This can be a better option as it will avoid you having to send away your damaged engine.

In a lot of cases after having the unit rebuilt, it will be under a warranty. This will normally be a ten to a hundred thousand miles policy or 3 to 5 years depending on the terms and conditions offered. If you buy a rebuilt motor you should be mindful that any future mechanical work on it will have to be done by the rebuilding firm to maintain the cover.

A rebuild is a much cheaper method of getting a vehicle back on the road but you should note that if it is not an original engine it can affect the future value of your car. Some classic vehicle clubs will not allow a car to be entered into a show after the changes. It is also a legal requirement to notify your insurers if the numbers of the block are different to the ones they have in their records.

A rebuilt engine for most of the popular models of vehicle should be fairly straight forward to source and will cost from as little as 1500 dollars. If you own a rare model or vintage vehicle then finding a reconditioned unit may be more difficult and costly. Motoring enthusiast clubs are good places to get some useful information and specialist help and advice.

If you want to send your block away for rebuild you will need to have a qualified mechanic to remove it from your vehicle instead doing it yourself. These technicians will have all of the tools needed and can extract it ready for you to ship. The job can be done in your own workshop if you have all of the tools and correct heavy lifting gear.

When you are working out carriage you should be aware that couriers charge by the weight of the crate and with an engine this will be costly. Some firms will offer free shipping and this can save some money. Always make sure that everything is safely packaged to prevent damage and always use a reliable courier firm that provides transit insurance.
