When we talk about operation of fuel system, the most important part is the car's PCM. You might ask why? Well, I'll tell why. For example, you own a Dodge Caravan, its ECM will tell the engine how much of fuel is needed just basing on the volume of air being used, throttle position and what gear transmission is in and basically just some other factors. In short, your Dodge Caravan ECU is the brain and holds the software that makes your van run right

A PCM (Powertrain Control Module), also known as Engine Control Unit (ECU) or in simple words, a car computer, is an important part because cars, e.g. the Dodge Caravan, do not work without these devices. These devices are made to be durable but there are instances that they just stop working. Troubleshooting techniques generally solves these problems because usually, only a damaged sensor that relays information to the computer is the problem.

A sensor that does not work properly or worse, does not work at all will not be able to send important information to the computer. This problem may most probably hinder the function of your car. For better understanding, we take your throttle's sensors as an example.

If these sensors fail to deliver information, the computer will not be able tell the volume of fuel it needs to release to the engine so that maintenance of the speed is kept at the proper level.

Another vital part of a car that works with the car's computer is the air flow sensor. The sensor works by calculating the volume of air that infuses in the engine and then transmits this information to the computer. The computer now then determines how much fuel is needed to mix with the air in the engine. If the sensors won't work, the car would not run smoothly as expected because the computer was not able to send the correct amount of fuel in the engine.

With these kinds of problem, the number one concern would be gas wastage and gas wastage also equates to gas expense. It can't be helped that when these problems occur, consumers immediately point their fingers to the car's PCM, which most of the time, is usually the cause but there is no harm in checking the overall car parts before ordering another Dodge Grand Caravan PCM over the web.

Usually, when a car's computer, also known as an Engine Control Module (ECM), cease to function, a blown fuse is the cause. Fuses protect electronics in an event of power surges much like the ones we use on our homes. It's just that most houses today use circuit breakers whilst car use fuses.

The first course of action you should take to get rid of these problems is to check the fuse box. Diagram of the fuses is usually found on your Grand Caravan's manual. Often times, it is also found on the cover of the fuse box.

If not, then we move to another possible cause. A car's PCM is very much alike to a computer's software therefore; we should not forget to get these checked. By bringing it to your dealer for inspection, the software's status is checked by plugging it unto a computer. This just might identify any problems in the car computer's software and actually fix it.
