Have you ever felt like you belonged to a different group when you were part of another? This is the question that has been raised in "Divergent" a science fiction novel written by Veronica Roth. To say the least, the story is gripping and I chalk it up to a number of characters who have proven themselves throughout the course of the narrative. Of course, there are also the instances of physical activity and I can't help but think that obstacle event racing could have been a strong addition.

I don't think that there are more physically taxing activities than obstacle event racing. The reason that I say this is because there is going to be an influx of competitive spirits seen in cases such as Spartan Race. In the book, they are especially noticeable as the members of each faction work off of rankings, so they have to be able to rank highly in order to stay in within the action. People both strong and weak are able to find themselves doing well, as the book was able to effectively display.

The main character of "Divergent" is Beatrice Prior, who belongs to one faction regarded as Abnegation, which is all about selflessness. However, when she reaches the age of sixteen, she decides to go with the Dauntless faction, which accentuates bravery, in order to find out who she truly is. Along the way, she learns to become not only powerful in her own right but daring as well. It's up to her to conquer whatever doubts she may have in order to become a member worthy of Dauntless.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that those which possess physical strength are able to work out as well. For example, Al is a large specimen of sorts but it seems like he is emotionally distraught, meaning that he isn't exactly the optimal participant you'd want in a faction. Peter is someone who seems to take great pride in his fighting ability, utilizing his ruthlessness to push around Beatrice in particular. Like Al, though, Peter isn't an ideal candidate, either, since he is greeted with what is best considered to be karma.

Obstacle event racing is going to take strength - this cannot be questioned - but in what ways does strength come about the most? I think Beatrice has shown that you have to be brave as well or else the actual brute power you possess is not going to be put to great use. It won't come in handy if you're too scared of pushing yourself to levels you might not have otherwise. If you can work up the nerve to get through it, success will be within your grasp.
