Torqeedo electric outboard is just the perfect item for those days when you need a quiet ride downstream to your most treasured fishing spot, as opposed to a gas-powered one. With this, you will realize that the maintenance cost is significantly lower. It is also important to note that maintenance is not always necessary when you are operating it.
Conversion of an old gas-powered type to one that's electric is always recommended as it has proven to be far much cheaper than buying a new one. Due to their ability to offer a higher mileage, the gasoline powered ones are considered less difficult to operate. Despite this, they have some disadvantages such as high maintenance costs and posing of negative effects on the environment.
A simple conversion to an electric one just requires changing the muffler. Alternatively, instead of purchasing a new one, you can convert an old gas-powered one to one that is electrically powered. In case you would like to perform the conversion on your outboard, you can follow the steps discussed below.
The gas powered one is supposed to be switched off first. A screwdriver should then be used to unscrew the casing on it. By using a wrench, unbolt the gas tank, lifting it up.
Next, remove the bolts from the motor and separate it from the engine. Following this, remove the bolts from the pistons and cylinders. Take out the gas motor and replace it with the electric one in its position.
Immediately after fixing the electric one, attach the motor and simultaneously drive the shaft together and align them. The two separate tips should be perpendicular to each other. As you try to twist its drive shaft, the motor should also twist or turn.
You can now set the motor in place by bolting it firmly. Unscrew the control panel after unscrewing the wires from the sockets pull them out and lift up the control panel. You will require a 300-amp for replacing the control panel and then fix the wires as earlier on. The battery sockets need to be pulled out from the engine and the case bolted back on.
The next step is to drill holes on the engine bracket which is located at the back side of the boat. The holes should be three in number; one at the end of the leather strap and one on each side of the rack. The end of the strap is then bolted to the hole on the left side.
Positioning the six batteries side by side, cover them with the strap and pull it tight. After this, a hole should be drilled in the strap and bolted in. Next, you should bolt the outboard onto the engine bracket.
The outboard having been bolted, the positive wire that is initiated from the battery on the left should be reconnected to the negative socket located on the right. In the same manner, the reconnection should also be done between the negative wire and the negative socket. It is important to arrange the batteries in a series. Finally, you need to connect the positive socket in the controller to the positive wire at the battery on the right. With all these steps completed, you can take your Torqeedo electric outboard to that fishing trip.
