A couple got up recently in rural Lee County, South Carolina to find their vehicle mauled and twisted. Many saw the Lizard Man, a community legend who apparently terrorized an adolescent in 1988, has returned. The pair might require a payday loan to get the vehicle repaired.
Found on July 4
On July 4, Leon Marshall woke up to find a mauled car. "I ran into the house and told my wife to call the police because something happened to the car," said Marshall.
"The tooth marks went completely through the fender," his wife Ada reported. "That's metal! And it just bent it up. It was like it was a piece of tissue paper."
The damage was very clear. The couple did not know what could have caused it though. There was a long gone tale told. The community sheriff knew it well.
How the story was told from a sheriff from the past
"This part here is how it all started in 1988," as reported by previous sheriff Liston Truesdale who is 82 now. "We got a call to come and look at something that had mauled a car. I went out there and looked at that damaged car, and I haven't seen anything like that before." The damage was blamed on a creature that several locals had reported seeing.
Young boy has a close encounter
Around the same time the station got the call about the mauled automobile, Truesdale says, a 17-year-old boy reported an encounter with a beast that came to be known as the Lizard Man. Evidently the teen was returning home from work when he had to repair a flat tire. He saw something with red eyes and three-fingered hands coming near him while putting everything back in the vehicle. The boy said the lizard man was seven feet tall. It looked like a lizard that was standing.
As reported by the boy, he then got in his car and took off. Apparently the beast then jumped on the car. As he was speeding, the creature was on the roof. The creature was looking through the windshield. He was looking down at him. He swerved back and forth until the thing was thrown off. The boy was so upset and scared when he got home. His parents had to calm him down for two hours.
Teen passes polygraph
As reported by Truesdale, the boy came from a responsible family and passed a polygraph test. He also seemed like he was really scared. "He never changed his story," Truesdale concluded.
There were several calls of a Lizard Man that flew. People had sightings to report. The story became media madness, with some 50,000 visitors descending on the area in hopes of spotting the reptilian creature.
Mauled in 1988 too
As reported by Truesdale, the damage that was on Marshall's automobile was comparable to damage reported in 1998. Allegedly the Lizard man had done the damage then. At least Truesdale has a sense of humor. It is a bit skeptical though.
"Everything (around here) is laid off on the poor Lizard Man," jokes Truesdale. "But at this point, he must have grandchildren!"
What is it?
Cryptic investigator Tom Biscardi claims that there is no Lizard Man. Biscardi gave his opinion. "What you've got is a primate, a thing called a swamp ape," he said.
