When you have the keys to your car, the world is your oyster. There are no boundaries on your travels. But it can also leave you stranded on the roadside when a mechanical malfunction occurs. This article will show you how to keep it running smoothly.

Always know how much your repairs will cost before handing your car over to a service department. If you don't understand something, make sure to clarify it first. Don't be surprised with extra costs when the car has been fixed.

To keep rust from becoming an issue, wash and wax your car regularly. All cars are going to rust, so make sure that you wash your vehicle at least once a month. Protect your paint and turbo for sale with good wax.

When taking your vehicle to a shop, ask any questions you may have about it. Be sure the questions involve the problems you are having with your car and what you can do to prevent it from happening again. Prevention is a great way to save lots of money.

Clean you car on a regular basis so it doesn't become rusty. All cars eventually get rusted, but the process can be delayed considerably by washing off any chemicals or salt immediately. Wax your car to keep paint in good condition, too.

Remove unnecessary key chains. The ignition in your car isn't designed to take a bunch of weight even if your car keys don't feel that heavy. If your key begins sticking, the tumblers need replacing.

Ask for labor rates or prices before hiring a mechanic. Make sure you're asking questions if you're not sure about the shop's rates. You need to understand how and why you are being billed for your car repairs. Shops also often give you estimated repair costs and times. Some repairs that are deemed "minor" may be all day jobs according to the manufacturer.

When you own a car, you need to make sure that it is always in good working order. But, some folks lack the knowledge to find good mechanics or to repair their cars themselves. Take a second to read over all of the concepts discussed above and you will have what is required to maintain a running vehicle for years to come.

  1. I just got my first car, it's a tin can, really old has some problems but it runs. My goal is to learn to fix this car and use it as a beginners guide to car repair. I know I'll have to put a lot of money into it, but hopefully taking it to the mechanic and doing my own smaller repairs will teach me more.
