At his discretion the Superior may check the Vendor's setting out, but any such check by the Superior will not relieve the Vendor of his responsibility to prepare the projects. On completion of setting out each portion of the Projects the Vendor will notify the Superior, and will obtain the Superior's permission to proceed with excavation.

The Contractor shall be responsible for determining the location of any underground services (e.g. power cables, pipelines, telephone cables etc), in the area of excavation and shall ensure that all such services are protected from damage or displacement during the source of the Work. Should any damage occur all associated repair cost shall be at the Contractor's expense. The Contractor shall excavate by any method elected provided that the method will result in work conforming to the requirements herein; will conform to all lawful safety requirements; and will not cause damage or interference to adjacent construction work, the plant or its normal operation.

The Contractor shall carry out all excavation under well drained conditions. The contractor shall perform all work necessary to protect the excavation and other works from flooding by rain water, ground water or plant process liquors. Adequate pumping facilities shall be provided and operated to maintain excavations in a dry condition suitable for placement of concrete or the installation of other items. Pumps shall not discharge into existing operating areas of the plant nor on to adjacent work areas.

In rock excavation, where overbreak occurs as a result of blasting or breaking, the resulting loose and fractured rock shall be removed and the over excavation shall be filled with lean mix concrete, unless otherwise directed by the Superintendent. Filling shall be at the Contractor's expense unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent.

In rock excavation, where over break occurs as a result of blasting or breaking, the resulting loose and fractured rock will be removed and the over excavation will be filled with lean mix concrete, except when otherwise directed by the Supervisor. The bottoms of finished excavations will be kept free and washed of loose dirt, water, other liquid and rubbish and will be kept free from trafficking. Additional excavation may be directed by the Supervisor. The bases of finished excavations will be inspected by the Supervisor to determine whether the exposed dirt is adequate or inadequate for the required bearing purpose.
