Dull and boring is how one would describe the job of a sales representative but it is farthest from the truth. Sales representatives are actually the people who keep the automotive industry alive. It is their job to sell each and every car model, be it new or old, to each and every customer that enters the dealership.

Cars are major long-term investments. Since they are expensive, the customers tend to be choosy about the features it provides.

People who wish to buy a car usually look for fuel efficiency, conformability and safety. If there is a car in the dealership that offers all of these 3 features then the sales representative would only need to make the correct moves to deal with a soon-to-be satisfied customer.

Selling a car could be quite challenging and takes practice and time to build rapport with the customer. Selling cars is not for everybody but if one has the talent for selling then there is really no reason to not give it a go.

When a possible customer enters the shop, the sales representative knows that the person is looking for a car. After the initial pleasantries, it is time to get to the point.

* Will it be for personal or family use? Does the customer have any model in mind?

* Does the potential car owner do a lot of work or carry a lot of things?

* What is budget or spending range of the customer?

* Do they want certain safety features in the car?

* Do they have a particular car color in mind?

After obtaining a few important details, the representative can narrow down the models that the customer can choose from. The important details include fuel consumption for highway and city driving, safety features, and other included amenities.

The sales representative will then allow the customer to sit in the car to get a feel. Both can also go for a test drive to feel and see how well it performs on the road.

Just like any other business, there are some lean days and months in the automotive business. When the lean months happen, the management would come up with promotional offers to entice potential customers.

A low payment or zero interest plans could be on offer. Some dealerships sometimes offer easy payment terms in addition to low down payments to make it more affordable for the customer.

Another major concern is the warranty of the vehicle. For example in case something does happen, what is the coverage of the warranty?

The sales representative can explain all the relevant details when it comes to the warranty coverage. A service contract is also offered in case there are some things that are not included.

The customer may need to spend a little bit more for the service contract. If the sales representative is friendly and honest then the car would be as good as sold.

Do not be impatient if the customer does not immediately make a decision. They may even require a week to make that big step. A good sales representative should take it upon him/herself to follow-up with the customer without becoming a nuisance.

Well-trained sales representatives on the sales floor do help the car industry make money by selling the cars.

The nice thing about being a sales representative is that in addition to the basic pay, there is commission for every car they sell. This really makes the sales representative job the best in the automotive industry.

However, the second most common method for selling cars is through private sales. Maybe you are looking at selling your own baby? The best approach when first planning to sell a car privately is to do a little research, about the market--to be armed with enough info. You can do that easily by determining how much your old vehicle is worth.

Look for answers to these important questions: Is it a popular vehicle? What kind of buyer is most likely to want this kind of car? Is it likely to receive several offers? Is the car going to be fairly easy to sell? To get answers to these questions with good results, the first step should be to examine several online web sites with car ads.

After you have your answers, the second most important thing is the appearance of the car or truck. Make sure to have it professionally detailed, or do it yourself. Clean the trunk, the engine compartment to some degree, then get out your car wash soap, buckets, and a microfiber towel. Thoroughly wash and dry the vehicle, then turn your attention to the interior, especially the driver's dashboard and seat. Spend a long time detailing the interior, and clean any grime off the steering wheel for example. Now you are ready to place your ad online or in a local paper publication, and get ready to sell your baby!
