Excavator, bull dozer, lift and cranes are just few of the common heavy equipment you must have seen or heard of. In reality, there is a plethora of construction equipment types that enumerating them all would be difficult, if not impossible. But while this is true, you should know that these pieces of machines fall under one of the general types of equipment.

And if you wish to learn this classification of heavy equipment, then check out the following. Typically, equipment for construction work can be divided into: earthmoving, material handling equipment, compaction and paving equipment, hauling equipment, aggregate production, and pumping equipment. Under the earthmoving equipment category, you would find machines designed for digging and pushing the earth. Under this are excavator, backhoe, drag line, bull dozer, power shovel and scrapers.

Following earthmoving is the material handling equipment. Machines falling under this category are used to move, store, control and protect materials. Examples of this are construction and industrial forklifts, cranes, dolly, hoists and pallet lift. Compacting and paving equipment is another group of heavy equipment common to construction sites. Compaction refers to the process of reducing the volume of air in hot mix asphalt pavement construction.

Under this category are plates and rollers. Aside from these categories, there are the haulers. Hauling equipment is used to perform the following: carry building materials; dispose excavated materials to clear the site; and transport heavy equipment and tools. These include the dump truck and the dumper. There are side or rear and bottom dump trucks. As for the dumper, it is normally used for short hauls on rough roads.

Apart from these categories, you would find aggregate and concrete production equipment, which are used to literally make aggregate concrete. Included in this category are the many types of crushers: jaw crusher, gyratory crusher, cone crusher, roll crusher, hammer mill and rod and ball mills. In addition, you have the pumping equipment which basically works by raising, compressing or transferring fluids.

When you search online, you will find different types of pumping equipment like centrifugal pump, diaphragm pump, submersible pump, test pump and well point dewatering. Discharge and suction hoses could also form part of this category. There are other classification of equipment for construction purposes. But while you continue your pursuit to knowing them, you should remember to look into the available safety equipment like fall protection lines and fire extinguishers. It will definitely be worth your time.
