When operation of the fuel system is the topic, the most important part that we can't do away is the car's PCM. Its ability to tell the engine on how much fuel it needs just by basing on the volume of air used, position of the throttle and what gear the transmission is in among other things makes it worthy for it to be called as the brain of the car. Also in most cases it's known as your Grand Caravan ECU which makes use of software to make your modern vehicle work just right.

A car, say for example, the Dodge Caravan, will not function without a car computer and by that; I mean the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) or also commonly known as (ECU) Engine Control Unit. These devices are built to be durable and last a long time but in some occasions, they stop working. One does not need to jump in the conclusion of replacing these devices immediately because there are techniques that can solve the problem. Occasionally, a sensor, which relays information to the car computer, that is busted is the cause of the problem.

When a car computer is not able to get vital information due to broken sensors, it will surely affect its functions. Such effects would most likely result to non-functioning of the car. For example, a computer will not be able to identify how much gas it needs to release to the engine in order for the car to operate on its proper speed when the sensors in the throttle are not functioning.

In addition, a car will not also work properly if its Air flow sensor won't work properly. Air flow sensor and the car's computer work in harmony in the sense that air flow sensor sends vital information to the computer and in return, the computer will send back information that will affect the car's performance. Air flow sensors work by determining the volume of air that goes right into the engine and sends this data to the computer and the computer will now send the right amount of fuel to be mixed with the air that goes into the engine. A discrepancy with the process will affect the car's performance.

Wastage of money is always possible in relation to these problems because of gas wastage and as we know, gas equates to expense. Consumers often blame the car's PCM when they encounter these problems. Most of the time, it usually is but consumers should remember that it is NOT always the case. Before ordering a new Dodge Grand Caravan PCM online, it is still best to check the overall condition of the car parts.

The common cause why a car's computer, also known as Engine Control Module (ECM), stops functioning is because of a blown fuse. Fuse protects the car from power surges. This can be compared to the circuit breakers that houses use to protect from power surges. The only difference is that car's use fuse to protect it in the event of a power surge.

If you think your PCU or ECM has burned out, check out the other parts of the car first. Things like the air sensor and transmission sending unit sometimes burns out. These things are common to go out before the engine computer and in most cases they are cheaper to replace. Without the sending units sending back the required information and data to computer, your ECM cannot make the right things happen within the function of the car.

Much like a computer's software, a car's PCM functions the same. You might want to consider taking your PCM to your dealer for it to be checked. Your PCM will be plugged in a computer and detection of any problems and repair is done. This will hopefully fix the problems you are facing.
