When it comes to the functioning of a car's fuel system, the PCM is one of its most essential components found in your automobile. Some factors such as the position of the gas pedal, air intake volume, and transmission gear has influence on the amount of fuel that is needed by the engine as determined by the PCM. The ECU can be said to be the brain of of your Dodge Durango ECM. Other names for the brain are power train control module, electronic control module, and electronic control module.

In order for your SUV to run, it needs a ECM which is sometimes known as a computer. Even though these computers are durable, they can be faulty once in a while. If a problem occurs, there are certain procedures used to troubleshoot these electronic devices that you can adopt. Probably, it is a sensor that communicates with the computer that has malfunctioned.

Since the computer cannot receive the necessary information, proper functioning of certain components of the car cannot be realized. Take an example of a malfunctioned throttle unit used for sending information; the computer of your car will not receive information on the right quantity of fuel required by the engine in order for the right speed to be maintained. In such a situation, your car will either not start or even stop functioning completely.

The air flow sensor is another component that works hand in hand with the PCM. The function of the air flow sensor is to determine the amount of air taken up by the engine which is used by the computer to determine the correct amount of fuel needed to mix with the air in the engine and it does send the same to the engine. When the sensor does not function, it will affect the functionality of the computer and the whole car in general.

In such a situation, so much gas usually gets wasted and thus money that was used to purchase it. The number one suspect when such problems occur is normally the computer which usually the case. Before purchasing a Durango engine control module over the internet, ensure that you check all the parts.

A blown fuse is also directly related to a car's computer that has stopped functioning. Using fuses, a car's electronic components are protected from power surges and other electrical problems. Although many homes make use of circuit breakers to protect their electronic appliances, fuses are just the same but they cannot be reset, only replaced.

When inspecting a malfunctioned PCM, among the first things that you should look out for is the fuse box. In order for you to find a diagram of the car's fuse, you can check out the operator manual that came with the automobile. You can also check out the cover of the fuse box which normally has the diagram in some cases.

In addition to the components mentioned above, the software running in the ECU system can also cause it to malfunction. All programs irrespective of their application can be corrupted and so is the one run by the PCM; the car's dealer or manufacturer can determine whether this is true and find a solution to the problem with one of them being re-installation of the software.
