[]Since the automobile first captured the attention and imagination of people everywhere, there have been auto hobbies. These hobbies range from collecting vintage parts to entire cars. One popular hobby is auto restoration.

Restoring a car entails returning it to its original factory condition. The entire vehicle is restored, even the frame, and if parts need replacing, genuine components are used. Authentic reproductions can be substituted, if necessary.

The entire car may need to be completely disassembled, and depending upon the amount of corrosion the part may need to be refinished. A replacement part might be needed if the damage is too extensive. In a proper restoration, the frame itself must be returned to original factory conditions.

The engine will often have to be completely disassembled, and worn parts replaced. Parts that are still in good working order need to be returned to factory specifications. The clutch, transmission, and electrical system must also be restored. This must all then be reassembled, and seals, belts, and gaskets replaced if needed.

The exterior of the vehicle must also be restored, making sure all dents and dings are repaired. It must then be painted in the desired color, either the original or a color that was offered that particular year. Doors and windows must open and close smoothly without any rubbing. This can be quite an undertaking depending upon the amount of deterioration.

Restoration is one of many auto hobbies that can be time consuming and expensive. This also can take a lot of room, so a garage or other covered storage is needed. Parts need to be removed, cleaned, and assembled away from the vehicle and the car itself needs to be protected. The result is a fully restored automobile that is show worthy-well worth the time and effort involved.
